Summer Festival Performances

Every summer, Jumping Camel has the absolute pleasure being part of many of Calgary's summer events and festivals. Our main ones are the Inglewood Sunfest in July and the Marda Loop Marda Gras in August. In past years, members of the Caravan would take part in performing, but this year is a little different. If you are a current Camel, have taken at least a level 1 and/ or 2, and have a bit of a performance bug, this may be for you!

A bit more info...

Summer performances usually include a short stage performance, and some time walking around the festival area with music, dancing in the street, and interacting with the general public. In order to prepare for these events, dancers meet up every week for 2 hours (usually Tuesday evenings 7-9pm) and practice technique and choreography, along with blocking and general performance tech. Practice commitments are non-negotiable and must be attended in order to perform.

This years stage performance set is capped at 15 minutes, and will be as follows:

1. Saidi Rais - Saidi choreography ( students registered for the saidi class in April will be learning this)

2. Dalaa Banat - Mahragnat/ street dance

3. Play with Me - Nico solo

4. IWCUBD - a Jumping Camel tradition, I wanna see you Belly Dance

If you don't know any of the above choreogrpahies, don't panic. Nico will be hosting a choreography intensive on Tuesday June 11 from 7-9, where you will get a crash course in Dalaa Banat (there will be a $20 fee to cover time and studio).

If you have an interest in performing this summer and want to attend the choreo intensive, fill out the adjacent form by April 27th 2024. All those interested will be invited to take part in an 'Intro to Performance' discussion at Nico's home where more information will be shared and questions can be answered in detail. Nico will also go over the info regarding IWCUBD and how that could work.
